Whereas, James G. Lunsford served Fairfax County Public Schools for twenty-three years until his retirement in 1983; and Whereas, he served as band director and music department chair at James W. Robinson Secondary School from its opening in 1971 until 1977; and Whereas, he served Fairfax County as Music Curriculum Specialist from 1977 until 1983; and Whereas, he created and sustained superior music programs at Falls Church High School and Robinson Secondary Schools, achieving success at local, state and national levels; and Whereas, he inspired thousands of music students and hundreds of music teachers to realize their full potential as musicians through his uncompromising commitment to the highest standards during his career in Fairfax County; and Whereas, while achieving success as a music director and serving in professional organizations at local and state levels, he nevertheless found time to nurture and inspire students as worthy individuals; Now, therefore, be it resolved that the music department facility at Robinson Secondary School be named "Lunsford Hall" in honor of James G. Lunsford: musician, teacher, administrator, colleague and friend.
